I already think that this is a bad idea but I am committed to the process for my son. My son - no so much; he tapped out after about 30 minutes of sorting.
Goal
Gather/sort all of the Lego's strewn around the house and sort them in a way that makes it easy to rebuild the sets.
Planing
The boy wanted to conduct the gather/sort by type of brick (1x4 bricks in one bin, 2x2 bricks in another, etc...) Daddy preferred a basic color sort. Daddy wins first argument and the bricks are categorized by color.
The twelve categories are as follows (Dog paw include for scale):
- Minifigures and accessories
- Orange and clear orange
- Wheels and wheel holders
- White and clear pieces
- Light blue and blue
- Yellow and clear yellows
- Black
- Dark brown and Tank
- Dark red and red.
- Gray and dark gray
- Green and light green
- Mostly together sets (not pictured).
Timing
This step too approximately 8 hours to complete and I am 100% confident we still have not found all the Legos. Anyone else brave enough to complete this step I highly recommend investing in two brick separators; they were invaluable in this step.
Mistakes
I would have picked a few more categories of "color" if I were to do this again. Gray and dark gray should have been in unique buckets. White and "clear" together was also a bad idea.
Coming up
First rebuild....
